GRI INDEX

• ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

EN1. Total Materials Use Other than Water, by Type

The only material used other than water that we consider relevant to report is lubricants. We define lubricants as oil, fat and other hydrocarbons, which are used during routinary operating activities at the stations, particularly as part of maintenance activities. Once used, the disposed lubricant and the materials that were in contact with it are returned to the main offices in order to guarantee the proper disposition of this industrial waste.

EN2. Percentage of Materials Used that Are Wastes From Sources External to the Reporting Organization

The activities that support the transportation of hydrocarbons by pipelines are our main sources of waste, particularly lubricants. Almost all of the materials used are considered waste. Waste monitoring is done periodically, classified by type and reported in kilograms.

EN3. Direct Energy Use Segmented by Primary Source

We report total energy consumption in kilowatt-hour, including direct and indirect energy use. We plan to report these indicators separately by the end of the year. Please follow the link below to our performance indicators.

EN4. Indirect Energy Use

We report total energy consumption in kilowatt-hour, including direct and indirect energy use. We plan to report these indicators separately by the end of the year. Please follow the link below to our performance indicators.

EN5. Total Water Use

Total water use is reported in cubic meters. Water is used during operating activities, particularly cleaning. Procedures for the control and management of water quality in Transredes S.A. follow the guidelines of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB).

EN6. Location and Size of Land Owned, Leased, or Managed in Biodiversity-rich Habitats

We operate a network of nearly 6,000 kilometers of pipelines in the biodiversity rich and diverse area of the Bolivian geography transporting natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons (crude petroleum, LPG, surplus refinery products, and condensates). Our gas and oil pipeline system passes through 7 departments, more than 90 municipal districts and 600 communities. We have no assets, concessions or facilities located in or overlap with Natural World Heritage sites.

Our activities impose potential risks to the environment that could have a severe impact on the biodiversity of the areas close to the pipelines. That is why Transredes S.A. has the responsibility of operating its facilities under the highest environmental and safety standards in order to actively protect the biodiversity, looking for opportunities to contribute to its conservation.

  • Working with our stakeholders in order to preserve the ecosystems
  • Respecting the basic concepts regarding protected areas.
  • Encouraging alliances with organizations that might promote positive contributions to the global conservation of biodiversity.
  • Preparing environmental impact assessments that include an evaluation of the potential impact on biodiversity.
  • Giving a central attention to the management of activities considered a priority, including their identification and consultation with stakeholders.

EN7. Impact in Biodiversity

The Bolivian environmental regulation requires that Transredes S.A. perform environmental impact assessments in order to identify the relevant issues and impacts, corporate and by site, related with the activities of the company. These studies are performed by companies authorized by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, are of public knowledge through our web page and part of the process of public consultation.

EN8. Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Values are expressed in tones equivalent and are reported quarterly. Our management procedures and control of emissions follow the guidelines of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB).

EN9. Use and Emissions of Ozone-Depleting Substances

Transredes S.A. does not use air conditioning systems at industrial level and the ones in place at our administrative offices fulfill the requirements of the Montreal protocol. Procedures and control for the management of emissions in Transredes S.A. follow the guidelines of the Interamerican Development Bank.

EN10. NOx, SOx, and Other Significant Air Emissions by Type

Transredes S.A. does not work with materials that contain Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), does not use Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and does not perform the transfronterization of toxic waste. Bolivia has been classified as an MDL country (Mecanismo de Desarrollo Limpio) in the annex 2 of the Kyoto protocol. Procedures and control for management emissions in Transredes S.A. follow the guidelines of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB).

EN11. Total Amount of Waste by Type and Destination

Transredes S.A. classify and dispose of its solid waste according to the following categories: biodegradable, incinerable, special, recyclable, industrial and sanitary. The largest types of waste generated by Transredes S.A. are biodegradable and industrial, particularly lubricants.

The biodegradable waste is disposed through compost cameras or, in the case of weeds, delivered to neighboring communities as food for farm animals. Industrial waste, known for being corrosive, explosive, flammable, pathogenic, reactive and/or toxic, is stored trying to avoid emissions, leaks and fire. A specialized company, with the proper authorization, is responsible for the collection of this kind of waste and its final disposition.

EN12. Significant Discharges to Water by Type

Transredes S.A. does not perform discharges to water. Contaminated water is properly treated and reutilized within the stations for irrigation purposes. Water quality of treated water is constantly monitored and reported to the appropriate authorities. Please follow the link to our performance indicators to know more about our use of water.

EN13. Significant Spills of Chemicals, Oils, and Fuels in Terms of Total Number and Total Volume

We report total number of spills that are equal or larger than 12.5 barrels, as stated by law. Please follow the link below.

EN14. Significant Environmental Impacts of Principal Products and Services

In 1997, Transredes S.A. was entitled to the operation of transportation facilities, which were subject to technical and administrative processes of environmental quality control in order to obtain the appropriate environmental license (Declaratoria de Adecuación Ambiental).

The environmental issues arising from new projects are managed according to their relevance, as stated by the procedure of environmental licensing and monitoring, being subject to a permanent monitoring along the implementation process. All our new infrastructure and expansion projects are designed according to international standards.

For more information about the results of the environmental impact assessment of specific projects, please follow the link below.

EN15. Percentage of the Weight of Products Sold that is Reclaimable at the End of the Products' Useful Life and Percentage that is Actually Reclaimed

As we provide transportation services, this indicator is not applicable to our business.

EN16. Incidents of and Fines for Non-compliance with All Applicable International Declarations / Conventions / Treaties, and National, Sub-national, Regional, and Local Regulations Associated with Environmental Issues

This information is reported as part of our performance indicators of Preservation of Human Life and the Environment. Please follow the link below.

Additional EN1. Gas Leaks

We report gas leaks as the total number of natural gas leaks over 100,000 cubic feet (M1 according to ASME classification). Please follow the link below.
